The Georgian President expressed his deepest regret over the death in Afghanistan of three Georgian servicemen, corporals Valiko Beraya, Ruslan Meladze and Paata Kacharava

They were killed as a result of a car bomb whilst performing their duties, during a Taliban militants attack.

Mikheil Saakashvili offered his condolences to the families of the dead, their friends and colleagues: "It is very bad news about the death of our guys which came out from Afghanistan this morning. This is a heavy blow for me personally, considering the fact that only two days ago I was with them. I witnessed the mood, courage and diligence with which they performed very risky tasks. Our boys go to Afghanistan fully aware of the risk and stay proud and dignified since they are fighting under the five-cross flag, primarily to protect the interests of Georgia."

He noted it was at a meeting with them in Afghanistan he said that their sacrifice is appreciated by today's generation of Georgians and particularly by future generations, because they will live in a united, much stronger, more successful country. Each one of the servicemen stationed there risking his life gets the experience that might form the basis of a future Georgia.
