Defense Minister of Georgia Bacho Akhalaia received Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service Maciej Popowski and representatives of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM).

As the Defense Ministry told Trend, meetings with the Monitoring Mission's representatives are regularly held at the Defense Ministry.

The sides discussed the EU Monitoring Mission's work. Akhalaia stressed that the EUMM's activity contributes to preservation of peace and stability in the region. He thanked the mission members for providing international community with objective information about the situation in the country.

The meeting stressed the Georgian leadership's principled position towards the occupied territories. Akhalaia once again assured the mission representatives that the Georgian government strictly pursues peaceful policy and tries to carry out defense processes openly. This is confirmed by close cooperation with the EU mission, he said.
