The Georgian Foreign Ministry issued a statement in connection with the 67th anniversary of victory over fascism. It expresses respect for the memory of those killed in the fight against fascism. As Georgian Foreign Ministry's statement says, those who were able to prevent the spread of fascism deserve special gratitude.

'The Georgian Foreign Ministry expresses its deep gratitude to all veterans who have special merits before the entire world and our state', the statement says.

It says that the victory has been gained at great loss of human casualties and there are several hundred thousand Georgian citizens among the millions of victims who fought against fascism together with the whole world.

'During World War II, Georgian residents defended universal human ideals such as freedom, justice and peace with their lives outside of their country. Georgian people can be justly proud of their soldiers who have made a tangible contribution to the common struggle', the statement says.

It also says that World War II showed the world the need for a new system of international law which would have eradicated the possibility of a repeat of such a big world cataclysm becoming a guarantor of peace and stability.
