Georgian Parliament supports government's economic program

The new Georgian government has presented its economic program, which was supported by 102 MPs.

Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili noted that the government intends to spend 20 billion lari ($ 1 = 1.65 lari) from the budget of the country during four years to solve problems. Some 6 billion lari of these will be spent on pensions, which will increase to $100 per month in 2013, 3 billion - on health insurance, which involves insurance of every citizen of the country, 3 billion - on social assistance to the population, which implies an annual allocation of voucher of $250 lari for a family, 4 billion on support of the village, which involves providing each village with gas, road, water, and the Internet and 4 billion on education.

The Georgian Government intends to create 273,000 work places during the next four years, the prime minister said.

More than $4 billion of direct investment, which will provide approximately 80,000 new jobs will be attracted in accordance with the program.

It is assumed that 140,000 jobs will be created in the tourism sector. Roads with total length of five thousand kilometers will be laid, which means continued employment of about 40,000 people. In addition, the construction of 15 new hydroelectric power plants will be continued, which will result in employment of 13,000 people. "The overall objective of these measures will be a decisive blow to the unemployment and opportunity for everyone to find place in a
strong Georgia" Merabishvili said.

Georgian Prime Minister said that Georgia's state budget will grow to 40 million lari over the next four years.
