President: U.S. experts to train Georgian servicemen

Dozens of sergeants of Georgian Armed Forces will be trained in the United
States in the near future, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili told journalists on Thursday.

He said: "The Georgian government will continue to work actively to strengthen the country's defence capability by raising the Georgian Armed Forces' training level".

"Now there are American and other foreign instructors among the Academy of the Defence Ministry of Georgia, who will teach future military officers of the country," he said.

Saakashvili referred to it as being "very important" that a month ago, during her stay in Georgia, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that "the U.S. will assist in technical re-equipment of the Georgian Armed Forces".

The U.S. actively assists in training of the Georgian peacekeepers,who have been serving in Afghanistan since 2010.
