Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili welcomes and fully shares the position of Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II and the Georgian church regarding the country's political process, his spokesperson Manana Manjgaladze said at a traditional briefing today.
She said Saakashvili considers the National Movement's initiative as important.
"The president welcomes and shares the position of the Georgian Church, and especially the patriarch, regarding the country's political processes," she added. "Our goal is to ensure the holding of elections, to observe the principles of justice and democracy."
In this regard, she stressed that the president considers the National Movement's initiative as important.
"According to this initiative, the rules of game will be set for all political figures," she said. "Equal conditions will be offered to all throughout the election period. We are pleased that the vast majority of parties shared the initiative and expressed its willingness to accede to it."
