Georgia, Tbilisi, July 27 /Trend N.Kirtzkhalia/

The Georgian Ministry of Youth and Sport has officially declared that the information broadcast by Radio Liberty about cash awards being handed out to Georgian athletes who are taking part in the Olympic Games in London, is not true.

The ministry considers it unethical to spread unverified information when each member of the Georgian team expects a fairly tight race.

The office has confirmed that indeed there are certain cash prizes for the winners in the finals of the Olympic athletic races. However the amount of the awards will be determined for each athlete based on the results achieved and the total number of awards. Accordingly, the amount of cash awards provided for the Olympic team will only be known after the games.

Radio Liberty reported that the prize in Georgia will amount to $1.2 million.
