According to preliminary data, there are no Georgian citizens among victims of the Sandy Hurricane that hit the east coast of the U.S. and Canada, Georgian Consulate in New York said.

According to preliminary data, there are no Georgian citizens among victims of the Sandy Hurricane that hit the east coast of the U.S. and Canada, Georgian Consulate in New York said.

As Georgian diplomatic mission told reporters, they have been constantly in contact with Georgian citizens living in New York. They were warned about expected hurricane two days in advance and they were recommended to follow recommendations of local authorities.

Meanwhile, as Georgian citizens say, they have suffered material damage, as most of them lost their cars, swept away by floods, or damaged by fallen trees.

The number of the Sandy Hurricane victims in the United States and Canada reached 50.

There are residents of New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and one resident of Toronto, Canada among the dead.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry issued a statement in which it expressed condolences to families of the Sandy Hurricane victims hitting the Caribbean, Canada and the United States.

"The Foreign Ministry of Georgia expresses its deep sorrow at the casualties and material damage caused by the Sandy Hurricane in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. Ministry expresses condolences to the families and friends of the hurricane victims," the statement says.
