Strict measures will be taken in regard to any prisoner who does not comply with the law, the Minister of Penal Executions Sozar Subari said on Monday at a press conference.

The press conference was dedicated to the situation in Ksani and Rustavi prisons where prisoners demanded the dismissal of the administration and physicians.

According to the minister, currently the situation in the prisons is calm.

"Nothing is currently happening in the prisons. However, tensions are artificially fermented outside of the prisons. We decided not to take tough measures for a few days, but from now on we will use all measures prescribed by law," Subari said, noting that all offenders will be punished.

The minister said six prisoners who tried to organise riots in Ortachal prison N1, will be prosecuted and punished in accordance with law.

"An inquiry is underway on the incident that took place yesterday in Ksani when a soldier was assaulted and an attempt was made to break into the prison. All those who try to break the law will be punished," Subari said.

According to him, those who break the law outside the prison will also be punished according to the law. The minister also warned that holding protest actions within 20 metres from the prison is prohibited and these attempts will be stopped and punished by administrative means.
