Former Georgian Interior and Defense Minister Bacho Akhalaia have faced new charges, the detainee's lawyer Joseph Janashia told journalists on Thursday.

According to him, apart from the previously incriminated 3rd paragraph of Article 333 of the Criminal Code of Georgia Akhalaia is formally charged upon the second and third paragraphs of Article 143.

Janashia stated that this article assumes the illegal suppression of freedom and punishment by imprisonment up to 12 years.

"The charge relates to one of the incidents in the restaurant and victim has given evidence, but Akhalaia does not admit his guilt upon Article 333," the lawyer said.

Earlier Akhalaia was charged upon the third paragraph of the 333rd article of the Criminal Code of Georgia in beating six soldiers and he was threatened with imprisonment from five to seven years.
Tbilisi court will consider the issue of the provisional measure of restraint on Friday.
