Nine senior officials from the Georgian Interior Ministry have been detained, the country's Justice Minister Tea Tsulukiani told reporters, commenting on the yesterday's detention.
She said the detained officials are accused of receiving information about other people's private lives by using advanced technology.
"Nine people, who are former officials of the Interior Ministry, were detained after being accused of using advanced technology and a computer network to get information about people's personal lives, including commercial and financial information," Tsulukiani said and stressed that this is not political detention.
The Georgian Chief Prosecutor's Office questioned seven employees from the Constitutional Security Department of the Interior Ministry on Wednesday. This morning after their questioning, five of them were detained. The Constitutional Security Department head Levan Kardava and high ranking department official, Giorgi Kavlashvili are among those detained.
