Georgia is not a member of the CIS, and will intensify its European orientation. Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili made this statement in Yerevan addressing a joint briefing of leaders of participating countries of the Eastern Partnership of the European People's Party after the summit of "Eastern Partnership" of the European People's Party.
"Despite the fact that Georgia and all the countries of the Eastern Partnership should consider all areas of cooperation, it is necessary to concentrate on the European orientation and make it definitive," Saakashvili said.
As the Georgian Presidential administration said, Saakashvili stressed that "like the Baltic states, we have to get a guarantee of 'no return' to the past and further European integration at the next third Summit of the Eastern Partnership of the European People's Party in Vilnius".
"This process should begin in Vilnius, we achieved great progress in the association agreement and the liberalization of the visa regime with the EU.
European integration is a key agenda for our country," Saakashvili said.
Saakashvili expressed his hope that the process of European integration will contribute to the European People's Party and thanked the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso for his support to Georgia during the Russian invasion of Georgian territories in 2008.
