Georgian Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili has received European Commissioner for Home Affairs Cecilia Malmström. Georgian Foreign Minister Maya Panjikidze and State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration Alexi Petriashvili attended the event.

The parties have discussed the political and economic processes in Georgia. Bidzina Ivanishvili expressed the readiness to fulfil all the commitments that will help Georgia in its rapprochement with Europe, including accelerating the introduction of a simplified visa system with the EU.

Ivanishvili added that today Georgia has received an action plan that it must perform for an open visa system. He also expressed the hope that Georgia will soon reach an agreement on free trade with the EU which will have a positive effect on the development of the country.

Cecilia Malmström spoke about the criteria required for an open visa system.

She said that it is necessary to combat corruption and organised crime, observe the rights of national minorities and conduct reforms that will ensure fair justice.

"We are all aware of co-habitation, but the prime minister and the president must find a constructive way out of the situation," the European Commissioner said.

"We had a very interesting meeting with Cecilia Malmström," Ivanishvili told the media after the meeting. "She brought the plan for the visa change which we will use to achieve a visa-free regime with Europe and help in the development of the country and its rapprochement with Europe."
