Court of Appeal dismisses prosecutor's claim on Tbilisi mayor’s removal

Georgia, Tbilisi, Mar. 2 / Trend N.Kirtskhalia /

Tbilisi Court of Appeal has dismissed the claim of the public prosecutor's office on removal of the Tbilisi Mayor Gigi Ugulava.

The Court of Appeal also considered unacceptable the second complaint of the public prosecutor's office regarding the decision of the Tbilisi City Court that dismissed all petitions on adoption of the preventive measure against Gigi Ugulava.

Both claims were considered by the Court of Appeal without an oral hearing.

Ugulava has been charged with misappropriation of another's property (2nd and 3rd part of Article 182 of the Criminal Code of Georgia) and money laundering (third part of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Georgia).

The Prosecutor's office of Georgia demanded to adopt the preventive measure in the form of a pledge of one million lari ($ 1 = 1.66 lari), dismiss the mayor from office and present him the requirement not to leave the country.

The Tbilisi City Court dismissed all petitions of the Prosecutor's office of Georgia.
A preliminary hearing on the merits of the criminal case against Ugulava has been set in the Tbilisi City Court for April 10.
