Georgian Foreign Minister Maia Pandzhikidze met with Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) Helga Schmid during a visit to Brussels.

The Georgian Foreign Ministry said today that the key priorities and urgent issues of cooperation between Georgia and the EU were discussed during the meeting.

According to the report, special attention was paid to the achievement of concrete results in a number of priority areas for the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius scheduled for November.
The importance of achieving progress in executing the first phase (legislative) action plan on visa regime liberalization and initialing an association agreement was emphasized.

During the meeting, attention was also paid to the strengthening of democracy and the rule of law in the country. Georgia confirmed its readiness to continue reforms in this area.

The parties also discussed the security situation in Georgia. The EU confirmed its support for Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty within its internationally recognized borders. Attention was paid to the situation in the occupied territories, as well as opportunities of strengthening the EU involvement in the issue of the active implementation of the non-recognition policy.
