If the ex-speaker of Georgian parliament Nino Burjanadze becomes the president, she will raise the issue of impeachment of Georgian Supreme Court's Chairman.

As it was stated by the presidential candidate in an interview to Maestro TV Company on Friday, the sentence, pronounced in relation to Bacho Akhalaia and other persons involved in his case, show that the court is still controlled by the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Georgia Kote Kublashvili and the United National Movement party.

"The government should have started to fulfill its promises after it came to the power. This is the restoration of justice. The restoration of justice also means the replacement of judicial power. Georgian Dream party had sufficient majority to start the process of impeachment in relation to the chairman of the Supreme Court, because all unjust sentences that were pronounced in the last years were approved by the Supreme Court, headed by Kote Kublashvili," Burjanadze said.

On August 1, Tbilisi City Court found ex-Defence Minister Bacho Akhalaia innocent on accusations of torture and ill-treatment of Special Forces soldiers.

The court found that the soldiers passed a normal survival program, and they were not subjected to torture for their political views.

Despite the acquittal, Akhalia remains in prison. He is also accused of abuse of power during a prison riot, when he was chairing the Department for execution of punishments, as well as the false imprisonment of several citizens.
