Georgian CEC registers candidate from pro-presidential party for participation in presidential elections

The representative of the pro-presidential United National Movement party, ex-speaker of parliament David Barkadze was officially registered by the Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC) as a presidential candidate.

The representative of the pro-presidential United National Movement party, ex-speaker of parliament David Barkadze was officially registered by the Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC) as a presidential candidate.Mikheil

Besides Barkadze, 11 candidates were registered in this stage: Georgi Margvelashvili ("Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia"), Nino Burjanadze ("Democratic Movement - United Georgia"), Shalva Natelashvili (Labor Party of Georgia), Giorgi Targamadze (Christian Democratic Movement), Koba Davitashvili ("Party of the People"), Sergo Dzhavahidze ("For a Fair Georgia"), Mikheil Saluashvili (initiative group), Nestan Kirtadze (initiative group), Avtandil Margiani (initiative group).

Presidential elections in Georgia will be held on October 27.

In total, 54 people expressed their wish to participate in the elections. Around 26 people submitted signature lists to the CEC (11 representatives of political parties and 15 representatives of initiative groups). Around 29 people were refused registration.

The final registration of presidential candidates in Georgia will be on September 27.
