The debates between the Georgian presidential candidates will be held in live broadcasts on the First TV channel of the public broadcaster on October 17-18.

The broadcast will be led by the journalist Eka Mishveladze.

Seven candidates (Giorgi Margvelashvili, David Bakradze, Koba Davitashvili, Sergo Dzhavahidze, Georgi Targamadze, Zurab Kharatishvili, Teimuraz Zhvania), will participate in the debates and have equal time to present their election programme, as well as to have discussions with other candidates.

Nevertheless one presidential candidate, ex-Speaker and the leader of the Democratic Movement Nino Burjanadze stated that the debates on the First TV channel are "provocation and for show".

"I am ready to have debates with Margvelashvili on any TV channel at any time. Which democracy does the ruling team talk us about when it refuses to have debates with the main competitors? I assure you that no one needs such a democracy," Burjanadze said.

The presidential election in Georgia will be held on October 27.
