Tbilisi, Georgia, Nov. 6

By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend: Georgia does not expect the format of the Geneva talks to change, head of the Georgian delegation at the Geneva talks, First Deputy Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani told media on Wednesday.

The Georgian delegation is taking part in the meeting on November 5-6.

According Zalkaliani, the agenda includes discussion of security issues in the region and the construction of barbed wire fences on the contact line with the separatist regions.

The issue of using force will be thoroughly considered during the discussions.

"You know that Georgia is committed to not using force," Zalkaliani added. "The Russian Federation must take such an obligation now. This would be a step forward at the Geneva talks."

Meanwhile, Russia believes Georgia must sign the agreement on non-resumption of hostilities with Tskhinvali and Sukhumi. Tbilisi insists on signing the agreement with Moscow.

The Geneva talks were convened after the armed conflict in Georgia in August 2008, in accordance with the ceasefire agreement of 12 August.

Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.

Russia recognised the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
