An action of protest was held in Tbilisi Feb. 25 to call for the resignation of the Georgian government due to the sharp depreciation of the national currency - the lari.

The rally took place at the Tbilisi Marriot hotel. Georgian Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Kvirikashvili met with the representatives of the private sector of the Georgian economy.

"We call for the resignation of these ministers and the government as a whole," the rally participants said. "The country faces an acute economic crisis due to them. Georgian ex-Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili and his team are responsible for this."

The lari rate versus the US dollar has begun declining since November 20, 2014. As of the recent trades, it was set at 2.2619 lari / $ 1.

The lari rate was within 1.74-1.76 lari / $ 1 until January 20, 2014.

The National Bank of Georgia began to tighten the monetary policy in February in connection with the expected rise in prices due to the depreciation of the national currency.
