Georgia’s Adjara opens enterprise for polyethylene boxes production

An enterprise for the production of polyethylene boxes with the support of the state "Rural Development Program" was opened in the municipality of Keda (Adjara), Trend reports with reference to the Georgian media.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia, 10 local residents work at the Adjara Trading Group. Up to 700,000 lari ($225,000) was invested in the enterprise, including 170,000 lari ($54,800) from the Rural Development Program fund.

"Packaging material holds an important place in the chain of agricultural values. It is at this enterprise that polyethylene boxes are produced in which agricultural products grown in Georgia are exported," Deputy Director of the Rural Development Agency Giorgi Jibladze said.

It is reported that in total, more than 30 projects have been financed under the program. The total investment cost exceeds 5.5 million lari ($1.78 million), co-financing accounts for more than 3.7 million lari ($1.19 million).

"Diversification of opportunities in rural areas is important for the growth of the local economy. With the help of the European Union, Georgia will be able to carry out appropriate reforms and build the villages of the future, where people will have opportunities for education, work and business," manager of the Rural Development Program Ketevan Khutsishvili said.

The Rural Development Program is implemented by the Rural Development Agency (RDA) with the support of the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) under the European Neighborhood Agriculture and Rural Development Program (ENPARD).
