The number of payment cards issued by commercial banks in Georgia in the first quarter of 2021 has increased by 2 percent to almost 6.8 million units, compared to the same period of 2020, Trend reports via Georgian media.
The largest share of the issued cards comes from the Master Card – 59 percent of the total volume, followed by VISA with 32 percent and Local with 7 percent.
Credit card issuance decreased during the reporting period by 4 percent annually, while debit card issuance increased by 3 percent.
The issuance of credit cards has been declining over the last 3 years, while the issuance of debit cards has increased compared to 2020, while in recent years this figure has been characterized by a decline.
