Exports growth to contribute to Georgia’s economic growth – minister

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 15

By Maryana Akhmedova – Trend:

Georgia’s exports are growing at a much faster rate than imports, and we are confident that 2021 will end with double-digit economic growth, Natia Turnava, the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, said at a briefing at the government administration, Trend reports via Georgian media.

“Georgia has already achieved the first results focusing on imports substitution and exports encouragement. Georgian exports increased by 31.4 percent in October 2021, compared to the same period of 2020, but compared to October 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic period, growth here is almost 29 percent,” Turnava said.

According to National Statistics Office (Geostat), the exports volume in October 2021 amounted to $411.1 million. This figure significantly exceeded the data recorded in October 2019 – by $91.5 million, or 28.6 percent. The dynamics of exports clearly indicate the recovery of the economy and the improvement of current trends.

“In general, the growth of exports is a great contribution to economic growth as a whole,” the minister said.
