Georgia shares data on electricity consumption in 10M2021

In the first ten months of 2021, Georgia consumed 12.3 million kWh of electricity from January through October 2021, most of which came from local production, Trend reports via Electricity Market Operator (ESCO).

According to the ESCO, domestic production of electricity in Georgia amounted to 10.2 million kWh, of which, 1.4 million kWh accounted for thermal power plants, and 8.7 million kWh – for hydropower plants.

Georgia’s electricity imports amounted to 1.7 billion kWh. The main importers are Russia, Turkey and Azerbaijan.

Georgia purchased 1 billion kWh from Russia, 161.2 million kWh from Turkey, and 505.7 million kWh from Azerbaijan over the first 10 months of 2021, the report said.

Georgia exported 382.7 million kWh of electricity from January through October 2021. The exports accounted for Turkey (220.5 million kWh), Armenia (137.6 million kWh), and Azerbaijan (24.6 million kWh).

Georgia’s total electricity transit over the reporting period of 2021 totaled 781.4 million kWh. Electricity transit from Azerbaijan to Turkey amounted to 318.3 million kWh, while the transit from Russia – to 321.8 million kWh.

Georgia’s transit of electricity from Russia to Armenia in the reporting period of 2021 amounted to 141.3 kWh.
