Georgia shares data on commercial banks deposits

The total deposits of Georgia’s commercial banks in the third quarter of 2021 amounted to 35.8 million Georgian lari ($11.5 million), which is an increase of 3.7 percent, compared to 34.5 million Georgian lari ($11.1 million) over the second quarter of the current year, Trend reports via National Statistics Office (Geostat).

However, the same figure decreased by 0.8 percent, compared to 36.1 million Georgian lari ($11.6 million) over the first quarter of 2021.

The total deposits of Georgia’s commercial banks in the reporting period of 2021 increased by 9.1 percent, compared to 32.8 million Georgian lari ($10.6 million) over the same period of 2020.

The deposits in national currency in the third quarter of 2021 amounted to 14 million Georgian lari ($4.5 million), while the deposits in foreign currency totaled 21.7 million Georgian lari ($7 million).

The share of the deposits in national currency accounted for 39.3 percent of the total deposits, while the share of the deposits in foreign currency – for 60.7 percent.

The interest rate on deposits in national currency in the reporting period of 2021 was set at 10 percent, while in foreign currency it was set at 1.9 percent.

Meanwhile, the interest rate on demand deposits in national currency stood at 8 percent, whereas in foreign currency it stood at 0.9 percent.
