The largest share of visitors who arrived Georgia in 2021 accounted for Turkey, with 326,494 visitors, Trend reports via Georgian National Tourism Administration.
The number of visitors from Turkey in 2021 decreased by 2.7 percent, compared to 335,580 people over the same period of 2020, and by 71.8 percent, compared to 2019 (before the COVID-19 pandemic), when 1.1 million people visited Georgia from Turkey.
Turkey is followed by Russia with 212,979 visitors.
Georgia saw an increase in the number of visitors from Russia over 2021 – by 4.8 percent, compared to 208,677 tourists in 2020.
The current index of Russia's visitors has significantly decreased (by 85.5 percent), compared to 1.4 million people in 2019.
The remaining countries:
- Armenia – 164,698 visitors (decrease of 36.9 percent, compared to the same period of 2020);
- Georgia (nonresident) – 151,559 visitors (increase of 8 percent, compared to the same period of 2020);
- Ukraine – 144,901 visitors (increase of 241.6 percent, compared to the same period of 2020);
- Israel – 100,686 visitors (increase of 291.3 percent, compared to the same period of 2020);
- Azerbaijan – 82,718 visitors (decrease of 72 percent, compared to the same period of 2020);
- Kazakhstan – 66,787 visitors (increase of 384.7 percent, compared to the same period of 2020);
- Saudi Arabia – 63,437 visitors (increase of 1179 percent, compared to the same period of 2020);
- Belarus – 53,698 visitors (increase of 274.5 percent, compared to the same period of 2020).
The total number of international visitors to Georgia from January through December 2021 amounted to 1.8 million visitors, which is an increase of 7.7 percent, compared to 1.7 million over the same period of 2020.
