BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 31. Georgia’s fuel importing companies are currently negotiating with several countries, including Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, and Russia on lower prices for duel products import, Zaal Iakobidze, the founder of Senta Petroleum Georgia, said, Trend reports via Georgian media.
According to Iakobidze, if an agreement is reached, which is in the range of reducing $200-300 per ton, a 50-tetri (15 cents) discount per liter could be achieved.
As he noted, Georgia has been importing only Euro-4 diesel fuel from Azerbaijan, however, according to the legislation, the Euro-5 standard is in force in the country. Although, if the government makes concessions and allows the import of gasoline produced according to the Euro-4 standard, cheap products will enter the country, which, in turn, will affect retail prices.
Meanwhile, Georgia's imports of fuels and lubricants from Azerbaijan from January through February 2022 amounted to $135.7 million, which is an increase of 59.4 percent, compared to the same period of 2021 ($85.1 million).
