Georgian FM Holds Meetings in New York

On September 20, 2006 Mr. Bezhuashvili, the Georgian Foreign Minister who is currently visiting the United States, met with Director of the U.S. State Department's Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs Daniel Fried. The sides made the peaceful resolution of the conflicts a focal point of their discussions.

The same day, at the UN headquarters, a meeting was held between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Gela Bezhuashvili and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia Dimitrij Rupel. At the meeting the sides discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation and highlighted the Georgian Government's new initiatives on the peaceful resolution of the conflicts. The sides focused on the ongoing reforms in Georgia and the economic advances recognized in the World Bank's Report for 2007.

Mr. Bezhuashvili addressed a meeting of low/medium-income countries held under the initiative of King of Jordan Abdula II. At the end of the meeting, the heads and foreign ministers of the eleven countries signed a communique on future cooperation.
