(Itar-Tass) - Tbilisi puts forward an issue of equality of Russian-Georgian relations, Georgian parliamentary speaker Nino Burdzhanadze said on Thursday commenting on her meeting with Russian Federation Council Speaker Sergei Mironov in St. Petersburg late on Wednesday.

Burdzhanadze, who came to St. Petersburg to take part in a meeting of the CIS interparliamentary assembly, told Georgian journalists it is necessary to switch the two countries' relations onto a normal track.

This will be possible if Russia establishes relations with Georgia on the basis of equality and mutual interests, she said.

I told Mironov that Georgia's statements and actions are by no means aimed against Russia. They are just a response to those concrete actions of Russia that does not take into account Georgia's national interests, Burdzhanadze said.

Georgia has less and less grounds to remain in the CIS. But this does not mean, that a decision on the withdrawal from the CIS will be taken at the level of emotions. We will take such a decision only then, when Georgia benefits from it, she said.
