Turkey’s armed forces neutralized 19 militants of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorist group during special operations in the country’s south-eastern Diyarbekir and Bingel provinces within four days, the General Staff of the country’s armed forces said in a message March 9.
According to the message, five machine guns, a pistol and 835 cartridges were seized during the operations.
A stolen car and a motorcycle, which PKK militants planned to use in terrorist attacks, were also revealed, the message said.
Earlier, Turkish Minister of National Defense Fikri Isik said that the country’s army has neutralized 9,600 militants of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorist group from July 2015 up until now.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for more than 30 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives. The UN and the European Union list the PKK as a terrorist organization.
