BAKU. Azerbaijan. August 16. Scientists from the European Copernicus Climate Observatory have said that the record high temperatures that have lasted for 13 months have come to an end, Trend reports.

According to observations, July 2024 was slightly cooler than July 2023. According to experts, the average air temperature worldwide in July last year was 16.91°C, which is 0.04°C lower than a year ago.

Researchers believe that a combination of factors is responsible for global temperatures remaining high for so long. Among these factors, anthropogenic emissions of carbon and other greenhouse gases, especially methane, have played a major role.

In addition, warming is also associated with the El Niño climate phenomenon, which causes an increase in temperature in the Pacific Ocean and solar activity.

Scientists added that as El Niño gives way to cooler La Nina, global temperatures will continue to fall but will not reach levels seen before 2023/24.

On the other hand, global average values of relative soil moisture have also shown a decreasing trend over the past 40 years and have been at low levels since the early 2000s.
