BAKU. Azerbaijan. August 19. Colombian President Gustavo Petro has signed a decree to stop coal supplies to Israel in connection with the operations carried out by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip, Trend reports.
The corresponding document was published on the official website of the government of the South American republic.
The decree states: "The export of coal to Israel is prohibited." The ban will go into effect five days after the document is published.
The decree states that in January-August 2023, Colombia exported $375 million in goods and raw materials to Israel, a significant portion of which was coal. "Israel is heavily dependent on coal for energy production and additionally uses this raw material for military purposes," the document says.
