Moro Muslims' website hacked as army denies

Hackers defaced the main website of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front www.luwaran.net early Friday, the group's chief negotiator said Friday.

Because of this, visitors to the website have to be temporarily redirected to http://forums.luwaran.net/.

MILF peace panel chairman Mohagher Iqbal confirmed the hacking of the site but refused to speculate on who might have done it, Philippines media reported.

"Maybe they were hurt by the contents so they ruined it. Many of our contacts abroad are asking us when we will restore it. We will need money to fix it," Iqbal said, reported World Bulletin.

Last month, the former website, www.luwaran.com, was also defaced.

Meanwhile, Philippines army on Friday denied sabotaging the website of MILF, which was defaced with photos of pigs early Friday morning.

Army official Ernesto Torres was quoted as saying even though they have not yet seen the website to confirm the incident, it is not in line with the principles of the military to take such an action.

The MILF website had several photos of pigs, animals considered unclean by Muslims. Links to news articles also led to defaced pages featuring pigs.

The Philippines, an archipelagic country located in the western Pacific Ocean, has a population of 90 million people. The population of Muslims is about 12 million. Between the years 1450 and 1515, two Islamic principalities were founded on the islands of Sulu and Mindanao. Islam came to the Philippines in the 13th century 200 years before Christianity did.
