The Syrian top legislature People' s Assembly on Sunday called on international legislative bodies to adopt practical stances against Israel after its attack on the Gaza-bound international aid flotilla, the official SANA news agency reported.

The assembly has sent messages to the international, European and Arab parliamentary unions as well as Asian and the Mediterranean parliamentary assemblies, urging them to discuss the Israeli attack, the report said.

The assembly indicated that if the international community does not impose deterrent sanctions against Israel, it would encourage it and terrorists, pirates and outlaws to commit more heinous crimes, Xinhua reported.

On May 31, an Israeli commando attacked a flotilla carrying humanitarian aids to Gaza with more than 600 people on board, leaving at least nine activists dead and dozens wounded, which has triggered international condemnation.
