The children of Gaza are seeking to break two world records in a week for the second summer in a row, which could surely be another world record in itself, Press TV reported.

More than 7,000 children simultaneously dribbled basketballs for five minutes on Thursday in an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.

The event, called the Great Global Gaza Bounce, took place on the runway of an airport bombed by the Israelis located near the southern Gaza town of Rafah.

The summer camp is one of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) programs held for about 250,000 children of Gaza.

Great Global Gaza Bounce may have been the world's largest simultaneous basketball bounce, said local UN chief John Ging.

He added that it will be known in a few days if the children have set the record. To do so, they must beat a 2007 record set in Indiana, the Maan news agency reported on Friday.

The children of Gaza will also attempt to break another record they set last year by simultaneously flying more than 3,000 kites.

The Gaza children have also drawn the attention of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who said, "You are showing the world that, if you are given the opportunity, you can be number one!"

"Two world records in a week is surely another world record in itself," said Ging.

However, two arson attempts were made on Summer Games locations, prompting condemnation from UNRWA staff.

In one instance, a few days before the opening of the games, 30 gunmen raided the premises, set it on fire, and destroyed equipment.
