Five people were killed and seven injured in a string of attacks in Iraq following the overnight withdrawal of US combat troops on Thursday, security sources said, dpa reported.

A policeman was killed by a bomb that had been placed in his car in the city of Fallujah, 60 kilometres west of Baghdad.

Two Iraqi soldiers were also killed by gunmen in separate attacks in the suburbs of the northern city of Mosul, security sources said.

In a separate incident in western Mosul, one member of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces was killed and four others were injured by bomb targeting Peshmerga forces.

Additionally, one person was killed and three injured by a bomb in the capital city of Baghdad, police said.

The bomb had been placed near a courthouse in a southern area of the city.

The US quietly withdrew its combat troops from Iraq in Thursday's pre-dawn hours. Some 50,000 troops remain to advise Iraqi forces, now in charge of Iraq's security for the first time in seven years.
