The Palestinian Hamas movement has voiced outrage at a radical evangelical pastor's call for burning the Muslim holy book of Quran, Press TV reported.

Terry Jones, pastor of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Florida, sent shockwaves across the globe by announcing a plan to set copies of the Quran on fire on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

"We are carrying a message for that insane lunatic American priest with thousands of people coming out to say the Quran is our constitution," Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh was quoted by AFP as saying on Friday.

US President Barack Obama has been making every effort to appease the Muslim community worldwide following the call by Jones.

The controversial announcement provoked many condemnations from high-profile figures similar to that of the Hamas leader.

"Our response to that impostor is the graduation of 40,000 people who have memorized the book of God," Haniyeh added.

Following a torrent of international furor over the mover, Jones announced that he has indefinitely canceled the globally-condemned, blasphemous move.
