The Bahraini parliamentary elections got underway Saturday morning, with 127 candidates vying for 35 seats of the 40-seat upper house, according to reports reaching here, Xinhua reported.
The voting stations opened at 8 a.m. local time (0500 GMT), and will close at 8 p.m. (1700 GMT).
Five other seats of the upper house have already been secured by unopposed candidates.
More than 318,000 eligible voters have registered for the voting.
