The Yemeni police arrested a militant who is on the country's most wanted list, the Interior Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

The ministry said police arrested the militant during the routine security search for wanted suspects in the capital Sanaa, and identified the suspect with first letters of his name "A. S. A. " and said his age is 26, Xinhua reported.

The statement posted on the ministry's website, did not tell whether the wanted militant is a member of the Yemeni-based al- Qaida wing.

Yemen, the ancestral homeland of al-Qaida network leader Osama bin Laden, has intensified security operations and air raids against terrorist groups, after the al-Qaida wing in Yemen claimed responsibility for a failed attempt to blow up a U.S. passenger plane bound for Detroit in 2009.
