Yemeni president: "we are as firm as mountains"
Yemeni president Ali Abdulla Saleh said Monday a majority of the country was in favour of stability and that those who want "chaos" are few, state media reported.
"We are as firm as mountains are and the vast majority of Yemenis opt for security, stability and constitutional legislation," Saleh told tribesmen in the Sana'a province, dpa quoted the state news agency SABA as reporting.
"Inciters of disorder and violence are few in the total of the Yemeni population," Saleh added.
The statement came as a number of Yemeni officials and diplomats defected from the government, protesting the use of violence against demonstrators who are demanding an end to Saleh's 32- year rule.
