Rebel forces have launched a successful attack on troops loyal to Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi in the besieged western town of Misratah, Press TV reported.
The rebels say they have carried out successful attacks on regime troops in the strategic town.
Reports indicate that opposition fighters have closed in on the regime's snipers holed up in residential areas.
The developments come as fighting escalates between the two sides near several key Libyan towns.
Revolutionary forces also say they have advanced towards the key oil town of Brega.
Anti-regime forces say they have reached Brega's university campus, just outside the town's oil port.
Brega has changed hands between the revolutionaries and forces loyal to Colonel Gaddafi around half a dozen times since March.
