The Arab League on Monday expressed its "full solidarity" with the Libyan rebels' Transitional National Council, as fighters claimed control of 95 per cent of Tripoli, reported dpa.

Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi said he expressed his full solidarity with the council at "this turning point in Libya's modern history" and "wished success for the council in leading a new era."

Al-Arabi also announced talks with Arab foreign ministers to secure a peaceful transition as well as stability in Libya.

The fighting continued in Tripoli between forces loyal to Libyan leader Moamer Gaddafi and the rebels, who said they expect to take complete control over the capital Tripoli within 15 hours.
