Azerbaijan , Baku, Oct. 7 / Trend E.Kosolapova
Egypt has provided complete security on Sinai Peninsula, said the head of Egypt's ruling military council, Hussein Tantawi, MENA news agency reported.
Earlier it was reported that Egyptian military command has sent about 1,000 soldiers and officers, dozens of tanks and armored vehicles to the province of North Sinai, for the fight against armed extremists.
North of the Sinai Peninsula, which borders on the Palestinian Gaza Strip, is considered one of the most disadvantaged areas of Egypt in the view of security. In particular, there are gangs of smugglers who are engaged in the illegal transport of weapons.
However, after the popular uprising in early 2011 that led to the collapse of security in the country, hundreds of Islamic extremists who had fled from the Egyptian prison, or migrated from the Gaza Strip came to the Sinai Peninsula.
Egyptian authorities think that the extremists involved in the repeated undermining of the pipeline, which supplies gas to neighboring Israel.
