Georgian Muslims leave for Mecca

Thirty members of the Union of Georgian Muslims leave today for Mecca on the occasion of the Qurban Bayram, Grand Mufti of Muslims of Georgia Jemal Paksadze told journalists at the Batumi airport.

Thirty members of the Union of Georgian Muslims leave today for Mecca on the occasion of the Qurban Bayram, Grand Mufti of Muslims of Georgia Jemal Paksadze told journalists at the Batumi airport.

Paksadze said the Qurban Bayram is celebrated on Nov.6.

Prior to the holiday pilgrims will pray at the holy places, he said, adding that this is the first organized pilgrimage of Georgian Muslims to Mecca.

"We will pray on the Holy Land for the restoration of Georgia's territorial integrity," Paksadze said.
