Two killed in southern Yemeni violence

Two civilians were killed in an overnight attack by forces loyal to Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh on an opposition party in the southern city of Taiz, medical sources said on Saturday, dpa reported.

A third person was also injured when the pro-Saleh forces shelled the office of the Islamist-orientated Yemeni Congregation for Reform Party in the area of al-Hasb in Taiz, the Yemeni news website Al-Masdar quoted the sources as saying.

There was no immediate official comment on the report. Taiz, a focal point of anti-Saleh protests, has for months been the target of attacks by pro-Saleh forces.

Since February, millions of Yemenis have taken to the streets, demanding an end to Saleh's 33-year rule.
