Thousands of supporters of Egypt's military junta held a counter-demonstration Friday in eastern Cairo, urging its members to stay in power, DPA reported.
The demonstrators gathered in the Al Abassiya area raised portraits of the country's military ruler, Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, asking him to ignore calls for him to step down.
"The people want to clear (protesters) from Tahrir," they chanted, referring to the bigger anti-military protest being held in central Cairo's Tahrir Square.
