Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas said Tuesday that it was "very moving" to see the Palestinian flag being raised at the United Nations cultural and educational agency UNESCO dpa reported
"It is very moving indeed to see our flag raised here within the walls of UNESCO," Abbas said in a speech at the UNESCO headquarters, after the flag was raised alongside the UN flag in front of the building in Paris.
"This is truly a historic moment," he said. "We hope this will augur well for Palestine becoming a member of other international organizations."
