Tunisia to extend state of emergency for third time

Tunisia will extend the state of emergency, which has been in place since the ouster of the country 's former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in last January, for the third consecutive time, Xinhua reported.

The country's new president Moncef Marzouki signed a decree on Monday extending the state of emergency for another three months until March 31, the Tunisian radio reported.

No reason was given for the extension, however, the move came amid persisting tensions on the Tunisian-Libyan border, and lingering industrial actions and sit-ins which have provoked traffic disruption in southern parts of the country.
