A meeting of an Arab League committee on Syria started Sunday in Cairo to assess the performance of its observer mission, dpa reported.

The committee led by Qatar may seek technical support from the United Nations for its mission of monitors, a diplomatic source said. "This technical support will be limited to providing the observers with equipment to do a better job."

The UN may also help in training some observers who have no previous experience in such fact-finding missions, the source added.
