Twelve injured in Iraq car bombing

At least 12 civilians were injured Sunday when a car bomb exploded near police offices north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, security sources said.

The bombing in the town of Baiji, located 200 kilometres north of Baghdad, also damaged nearby government buildings and stores, added the sources, dpa reported.

The blast took place one day after at least 61 Shiite pilgrims were killed in a suicide bombing in the southern city of Basra.

Fears have grown among Iraqis over a surge in attacks by armed groups after US troops completed their withdrawal from the country in December.
